Vancouver BC act Blue J make dreamy indie rock on their debut self-titled EP, released in August. Our Song of the Day, “Hard To Know,” tells a story about experiencing a loss seen through the lens of someone trying to give support. The guitar line recalls Big Thief’s “Mythological Beauty” combined with the dreaminess of The Radio Dept. (or any other Labrador Records signee).
The quartet, made up of Justice McLellan, Lindsay Sjoberg, Mark Whiting and Adam Fink, began Blue J as an after-hours project between bins at Zulu Records, and once the initial ideas were fully formulated, they enlisted John Raham to helm the three-day recording process at Afterlife Studios.
