Octo Octa – Fleeting Moments of Freedom (Wooo) (MP3)

Maya Bouldry-Morrison has been inexhaustibly producing for years, far before she seemed to burst onto the scene in 2011 when underground house label and culture-maker 100% Silk put out her debut Octo Octa EP Let Me See You, but in many ways Where Are We Going? is her true debut. Her first album since coming out publicly as transgender, Bouldry-Morrison covers the narrative of her new life as an out trans woman. "Fleeting Moments of Freedom (Wooo)" is one of the lighter pieces on the album, which seeks to capture the blissful feelings that accompany DJing while also tongue-in-cheek referencing how few and far between those moments can be. The completely instrumental track's bassline shuffles and throbs while the synth melody builds and disappears, continually circling around back to itself. It's a more restrained version of Octo Octa but has a depth and warmth that's not always felt in house music.

Check out Octo Octa's Soundcloud for tracks from the past four years, but if you want to delve deeper into her discography then Bandcamp is the way to go. You can catch Octo Octa in Europe, New York, or Los Angeles, but Seattle is not currently on her route of tour dates. In the meantime, keep up with her via Facebook and check out her recent live performance for Resident Advisor below.
