Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Caught In A Dream” by FF from the 2014 album Lord on Couple Skate.

FF - Caught In A Dream (MP3)

Search for “Seattle” and “FF” and you’ll likely get film festival listings and Foo Fighters lyrics. What does FF stand for? The Seattle band’s faint internet presence makes it difficult to know — and all too tempting to think up silly alliterations. While their name and (nonexistent) band page are mysterious, their music tells us just who they are. FF’s DIY, grungy, underground punk aesthetic is familiar to us Pacific Northwesterners, especially those present in the 80s and 90s for the independent scene’s proliferation. Formed after lead singer Harley Thompson’s old band, Unreals, dispersed, FF features Claire Nelson on bass and vocals and Michael Abeyta on drums. Their shoegazy, grungy punk sound has one foot in the domain of the aforementioned Dave Grohl and the other in My Bloody Valentine's territory. The fuzzy, boisterous “Caught In A Dream” makes you want to embrace youthful delinquency, chug a forty, and lose it at a house show.

When can you shed that stuffy work uniform, don your best Sonic Youth tee and see this trio perform live? FF's bandcamp has been wiped clean, and the group has no Facebook, Twitter, or website, but keep your eyes open for this local group's shows. You can always get down in the comfort of your own home by watching the band perform "Caught In A Dream" at KEXP:
