Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on The Afternoon Show with DJ Kevin Cole, is “Madora” by Beverly from the 2014 album Careers out now on Kanine Records.

Beverly - Madora (MP3)

Dream pop goddess Frankie Rose is a love-em-and-leave-em kinda gal. The super-talent was in the original line-ups for Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls, and the Vivian Girls before taking off and pursuing her solo career. And, now Rose can add the project Beverly to that list.

When Rose was on her 2012 solo tour, she brought in musician Drew Citron to join them for a jaunt to SXSW. The two quickly discovered they shared a love for simple, melodic punk-pop, and began collaborating on original material together for Beverly while on the road. In the studio, Citron played most of the instruments, while Rose jumped in on drums and backing vocals. The result is the sparkling debut, Careers, and today's Song of the Day, the Pixies-esque garage-pop stand-out "Madora."

Alas, Frankie Rose won't be joining the band live, leaving Citron to recruit former members of Chairlift, Class Actress, and Feathers to join her on stage. Meanwhile, you can follow the band on Twitter and Facebook, and check out a video for the track "Honey Do" below.
