  • North Carolina's The Avett Brothers have stayed busy since the release of their last album, The Carpenter, 11 months ago. The band is working on their next full length album, Magpie and the Dandelion, due out on October 15th. Listen to the catchy first single, "Another Is Waiting," a track indicative of a promising new album. [NPR]

  • Julianna Barwick's video for "One Half," from her upcoming album Nepenthe, has the artist throwing a fit after nobody shows up to her birthday party in the woods. Well, maybe that's not the story but the evocative new video, directed by Zia Anger, with Julianna's haunting vocals is mesmerizing and certainly full of deeper meaning.   • Arcade Fire has once again teamed up with Spike Jonze, providing the soundtrack to the new film Her. Arcade Fire previously graced Jonze's Where The Wild Things Are trailer with "Wake Up," which became an instant anthem for 2009, while Jonze directed a short for the band in 2010. Watch the trailer for the all too realistic, futuristic Her below. [CoS]
  • Speaking of music and movies, Joanna Newsom has been cast in Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming Inherent Vice. There's no word yet on who Newsom will play, or whether her musical talents will be showcased. The singer/songwriter's past acting endeavors have included a Portlandia skit and MGMT's "Kids" music video. [Stereogum]
  • Basement Jaxx debuted the video for their last single, "Back 2 The Wild," in April and are back with a new single,  "What a Difference Your Love Makes," featuring Damian Weilers on vocals. The video, filmed in Johannesburg, features a uniquely South African dance, Pantsula. Explore the streets of Alexandra in this new dance-inducing video. [Pitchfork]

  • Purity Ring's Megan James sings on Jon Hopkins' latest version of "Breathe This Air," a track from his June release, Immunity. Their collaboration, which has included Hopkins' remixing and producing tracks for Purity Ring, continues as James and Hopkins will play two shows together this month in L.A..
