  • Shearwater have a new album coming out 11/26 on Sub Pop Records titled Fellow Travelers, a collection of covers of their former tourmates. This past summer, we captured frontman Jonathan Meiburg backstage at the Sub Pop Silver Jubilee, working through his version of the Baptist Generals' FCC-unfriendly track "Fucked Up Life." Download the album version here, watch his live solo take below, and tune in at Noon PT on Tuesday, November 26 to hear an exclusive in-studio session with Jonathan on The Midday Show on KEXP. • M.I.A. is launching a new fashion collection in-stores and online on October 16th for Versace's Versus clothing line. She told the NY Daily News, the 19-piece collection was inspired by the counterfeit clothing she found in street markets as a kid growing up in East London (like the fake Louis Vuitton sweatshirt she wore in the KEXP studios back in 2007). "Versace designs have always been bootlegged, now it’s Versace bootlegging the bootleg... This is to keep that cycle going.” [NY Daily News]

  • Looks like we can a few more degrees to Sharon Van Etten: not only does she team up with Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis for this John Denver cover, but the hilarious music video stars Aimee Mann and KEXP-fave Jon Wurster (drummer for Superchunk, Bob Mould, Mountain Goats, Ben Gibbard... okay, clearly Sharon's added more than a "few" degrees here). [Funny Or Die]

  • We were bummed when Spanish group Delorean had to cancel their in-studio session with us, originally slated for today, but after we heard about this, we completely understood: the band were victims of a “virtual kidnapping” in Mexico City over the weekend. They announced on their website, after being held hostage for 30 hours, all band members are currently safe. Tonight's show at Neumos has been cancelled; we'll share the rescheduled date as soon as we hear it. [Consequence of Sound]

  • To end on a more cuddly note, Grimes recently shared her tour rider with the adorable request, "if possible", for the presence of "one cute bulldog, French bulldog, pug or pomeranian (or other cute animal, such as a chinchilla or a pekingese" to hang out with before the show. For a woman who tours with a Totoro backpack, this does not surprise us in the least. [Pitchfork]
