As far as guitarists who have stopped by KEXP recently go, Kurt Vile is the most-laid back of the bunch, letting his gauzy guitar playing do the talking as he hides behind his now-trademark long, brown hair. (In fact, one of the few points in the video where you can actually see his face is when Vile charmingly almost breaks an FCC rule.) Kurt Vile's newest album, the appropriately-titled Wakin on a Pretty Daze, finds the songwriter expanding his horizons as a lyricist and guitarist, and during their half hour-long performance last March, Vile and his band, the Violators, worked through three winding, breezy cuts from Daze, expanding the studio versions with dazzling solos and hushed, soothing vocals. Watch Kurt and the band lay down some serious grooves and talk about Daze's awesome mural cover art below.
