World Refugee Day on KEXP
June 20 is World Refugee Day, an international observance dedicated to raising awareness of the world’s refugee situation and to support millions of families all over the world who have lost their homes and families because of violence or war. The day also provides opportunities within local communities to help refugees worldwide.
KEXP is taking this opportunity to celebrate refugees, and the rich contributions they make to our community and our world. Every hour, we will play music from an artist who is a refugee as a show of appreciation and support.
Tonight in the KEXP Gathering Space, La Marzocco is hosting a number of World Refugee Day events, which are free and open to the public.
The 14th annual ARTvocacy exhibition is on display all day, with artists from local refugee communities sharing their work - and their stories - to raise awareness of global refugee issues and to highlight the creative contributions of refugees in Washington State.
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will swear in a number of new U.S. citizens at a citizenship ceremony, where former refugees will become naturalized citizens.
