Sam Beam continues to stretch out on his 3rd Iron & Wine full-length to stunning effect. While his 2005 Woman King EP and that year’s collaboration with Calexico found Beam using a greater variety of instrumentation, The Shepherd’s Dog is easily his fullest-sounding recording to date, with adventurous, richly textured arrangements fleshing out a diverse, stellar batch of his typically dark and haunting songs. 9/19/2007
