This New York-via-Cincinnati band’s 4th album is a bit more subdued than their 2005 breakthrough release Alligator, but ends up getting under the skin all the same. Boxer is a more subtle take on the band’s blend of gloomy Joy Division post-punk and orchestral Tindersticks goth-Americana, eschewing Alligator’s more cathartic moments for a brooding, deeply poignant melancholy. 5/9/2007
