- (Luaka Bop)
One of the more eccentric singer-songwriters around, Jim White aims for a more subtle and consistent sound on his third album of arty roots-rock by smoothing out some of the jagged edges of his previous releases for an atmospheric, groove-oriented approach combining trip hop beats, soft, mostly whispered vocals and a variety of instrumentation evoking a noirish, dream-like haze. Many special guests contribute, including Joe Henry (who produced half the album), Aimee Mann, M. Ward, Bill Frisell, Oh Susanna and others. 6/4/2004
