- (In the Red)
On their debut album, this Chicago band combines a host of New Wave/post-punk influences (the Velvet Underground, Richard Hell, Talking Heads, Echo & the Bunnymen, etc.) with some classic-rock and ‘60s girl-group riffs and then dirties it all up with garage-rock grime, while somehow making it all sound fresh. And even though many echoes of the past can be heard, the band’s endearingly quirky lyrics are all their own. 4/5/2004
