- (Rykodisc)
Moroccan underground trance band, co-produced by Bill Laswell with additional instrumentation from the usual Laswell suspects. According to the notes, in Moroccan legend Aisha Kandisha is a beautiful enchantress and voracious devil. Helpless against her wicked charms, her victims are driven beyond the brink of madness to a state of frenzied derangement. The only way to lift the curse is through elaborate trance ceremonies that include heated rhythms, frenzied dancing and occasional self-flagellation. Just thought you'd like to know. Anyway, their music has aroused the ire of authorities and fundamentalists in their native Morocco. Here, it sounds like a trippy fusion of Moroccan and Western dance rhythms.
