Celebrating Mexican Independence Day with DJ Chilly and Café Tacvba

Earlier this week, Latin American superstars Café Tacvba stopped by KEXP for an intimate performance, broadcast live after El Sonido. In honor of Mexican Independence Day, we will be re-airing tracks from that session on Sunday, September 16th, and playing some bands from the amazing Mexican music scene mixed in with our regular programming. In honor of their performance, DJ Chilly, the host of KEXP's modern Latin-mix show El Sonido shared some thoughts on the band, along with some of his favorite videos:


Since the early '90s, Mexico City’s Café Tacvba has been pushing the boundaries of rock and roll with unique experimentation that can feature everything from electronics to ska, and often with some great traditional Mexican styles mixed in. They’re constantly reinventing themselves while keeping their signature sound, and have consistently put out wonderful records including last year’s Je Beibi. This is arguably the best Latin rock group of all time and it was an honor to have them perform for KEXP. The albums are great, but it’s their live show that will blow you away. Check out some of my favorite videos of theirs below:
