Midnight In A Perfect World: Quiet Friend

Midnight In A Perfect World

Alex Ruder

Quiet Friend is a New York-based project spearheaded by Nick Zanca (aka Mister Lies) alongside guitarist-synthesist Steven Rogers. Influenced by the progressive pop approaches of 1980s artists Prefab Sprout, The Blue Nile, and Arthur Russell, the outfit just released their self-titled debut album on Elestial Sound, introducing listeners to their evocative hi-fi synth-pop sound that brings a refreshing retro/futuristic sound to the 2018 pop landscape through their richly-textured productions, dynamic arrangements, and sharp songwriting skills that lyrically tackle issues such as social anxiety, queer identity, and the often painful experience of seeking out intimacy in crowded cities. Their exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World is a brilliant journey through inspiring sounds from their deep record collections, seamlessly touching upon avant-garde pieces, vibrant jazz, hypnotic ambient, dreamy psych-pop, blistering instrumental rock, and more.
