  • Sister musicians Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee and Allison Crutchfield ofSwearin' got together to cover Sleater-Kinney's "Modern Girl" for Vulture Festival in New York over the weekend. Before their solo careers, the Crutchfield's were in the beloved pop punk band P.S. Eliot, which broke up in 2011. Allison Crutchfield released her debut solo album Tourist In This Town a few months ago while Waxahatchee is releasing Out in the Storm on July 14th and will be in Seattle shortly after, on Monday, July 24th at Neptune Theatre. • Australian rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have just announced a North American tour. They're kicking things off at Nashville’s Cannery Ballroom on September 26th and will be in Seattle on October 10th at the Neptune Theatre. The band’s new album, Murder of the Universe, arrives June 23 via ATO. • The band White Reaper are nothing if not confident. Their latest album, released last month, was entitled The World's Best American Band, and while that seems like a pretty bold and debatable statement they're definitely keeping things entertaining with their latest video for the album's title track. The primarily cartoon video was animated by Simon Young and introduces each of the band’s members before following them all to a show, where their animated counterparts eventually become real-life depictions of themselves. White Reaper are playing the Tractor Tavern on Thursday, June 22nd. [ Stereogum]

  • Ani DiFranco is releasing her 20th album Binary on June 9th and has shared the single "Zizzing" from it. The track features Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. DiFranco said of the process, “We only did a few takes of ‘Zizzing’ in the studio, me, Jenny [Scheinman, violinist], Todd [Sickafoose, bassist], and Terence [Higgins, drummer]. It just went down. Then Justin [Vernon] did his thing remotely. Receiving Justin’s tracks over the ole interwebs was like opening a Christmas present. Just what I always wanted!” This is her first release since 2014's Allergic to Water and no current tour plans have been announced. Listen to the track exclusively at Consequence of Sound. • Whether they planned this or not is tough to say but The Mountain Goats kicked off the US portion of their tour behind their latest release Goths last night on none other than World Goth Day. Not only that, but the band brought out Cindy Wilson of The B-52’s to sing “This Year” off ofSunset Tree with them. Hopefully they have some more tricks up their sleeves when they come to the Showbox on Monday, June 5th! [ Brooklyn Vegan ]
