Brix Smith seems to have led a fascinating existence. Perhaps having been a member of the Fall isn't a huge claim to fame (not many bands have Wikipedia pages specifically dedicated to listing their past members, after all). But how many people can say they've played with the Fall, the Bangles, and Hole? Can't be more than six or seven, right? Oh, plus she produced a decent handful of her own music, including this here single by The Adult Net (the album cover just says "Adult Net," but the Internet is telling me it's "The Adult Net," and I try not to argue with the Internet). (Side note: "The Adult Net" has a very specific connotation here in 2016, but what in the world did  refer to in the '80s? Anyone?)

Despite the snarky (and somewhat sexist) comments of some at KCMU, Ms. Smith's fame never eclipsed that of her ex-band and ex-husband, but that just makes it more of an unexpected pleasure when unearthed at moments such as these. Now, speaking of unexpected pleasures: please enjoy this delightfully '80s video for "Waking Up in the Sun."

"This sounds a lot fuller and denser than I remember them to be. I'm not that familiar w/earlier recordings from them, but I do like this. Creed?" [Creed never responded - hey Damon, if you're reading this, do you care to chime in now?]

"I like it, too. 'Baby You're Away' was very melodic."

"She's single now. I'm going to England. See ya."

"Hey Craig - I'll race you!"

"And she'll probably be bigger than the Fall ever will 'cause she's got 'the looks' & a much more 'commercially acceptable' sound. Life isn't fair."

"This one sucks big time in my book."

Despite the many, many hours in the late '80s and early '90s I spent immersing myself in the sounds of Manchester (both contemporary and historical), for some reason the Happy Mondays never really clicked with me. Maybe they were just a bit too fun and dancey for my mopey teenaged self, who knows. …

Review Revue: A.C. Marias - One of Our Girls

Angela Conway, the force behind A.C. Marias, doesn't seem to have been particularly prolific as an artist, but what she lacked in quantity she more than made up for in quality - as evidenced by the KCMU gang's high regard for One of Our Girls, the sole A.C. Marias full-length. Conway collaborated e…
