  • Renowned director Lance Bangs helms a video from Americana veterans Drive-By Truckers. Watch the clip for "Surrender Under Protest" below, a track from their most recent release, American Band, out now on ATO Records. A press release describes the video as "a gritty portrait of today’s America within the Black Lives Matter movement, done in the style of the Clash’s ‘London Calling.'" Watch: [Stereogum]

  • It's been twenty years, and A Tribe Called Quest are returning in a big way with their new (and final) album, We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service. Not only does this new album hit stores this Friday, not only will they be the musical guests on Saturday Night Live this Saturday, but they are also organizing a pop-up shop in New York City this weekend. From November 11th through 13th, stop by 393 Broadway in Manhattan from 3 to 8 PM, and get yourself some t-shirts, jackets, and physical forms of the new LP. (There will also be an online store for those of us not in the area.) If you are in the area, you can also attend a dedication ceremony in honor of late Tribe member Phife Dawg later this month. On November 19th, a portion of Linden Boulevard in Queens will be renamed “Malik ‘Phife Dawg’ Taylor Way.” [Spin]

  • As one of the original members of Guided By Voices, singer/songwriter Tobin Sprout has always stood quietly in the shadows of high-kicking frontman Robert Pollard, penning a handful of wonderfully melodic songs each album. (And, having my cat named after him; rest in peace, Tobin the cat, 1996-2009.) Early next year, Sprout will release his sixth solo album, The Universe And Me. Over the past seven years, Sprout has been excavating long-lost demos from his Michigan home, including the track "Future Boy Today/Man Of Tomorrow" which was originally penned for GBV. Listen below. The Universe And Me is out February 3rd via Burger Records, who will also be reissuing his Matador Records albums, Carnival Boy and Moonflower Plastic. [Stereogum]

  • Over the summer, for the first time in five years, 50 members of The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians performed a small tour, playing shows in England, Holland, Turkey, and Denmark. This December 9th, a collection of these performances will be released as Africa Express Presents… The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians & Guests, via Transgressive Records. Some very special guests appear on the album, including Damon Albarn (who covers The Beatles' "Blackbird"), Julia Holter, Bassekou Kouyaté, Paul Weller, Faia Younan, and more. Watch a trailer for the LP below. [Pitchfork]
