Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is "Desperation", a new single by Seattle's Bread & Butter, on Killroom Records.

Bread & Butter - Desperation (MP3)

Soon to be Seattle staples, Bread & Butter have just served up their latest single, and it's nourishment for the soul in these joy-starved times. Back in 2015, the local foursome self-released a short LP, which our Music Director, Don Yates, praised as "a rock-solid set of jangly, ‘70s-steeped power-pop with bouncy rhythms and catchy song hooks", and now they're back for more, with their first single on Seattle's Killroom Records (co-created by KEXP's own Troy Nelson). "Desperation" is a self-assured slacker anthem so convicted in its Cheap Trick thrills and Thin Lizzy swagger that the band finishes with it at their live shows. So, go ahead and don't worry about filling up - you can make an entire meal of Bread & Butter.

You can get yours tomorrow night, November 23rd, when Bread & Butter plays Chop Suey in Seattle, but if you have other reservations this week, look for future tour dates and more music on their website and Facebook page. For now, dig in to the official music video for "Desperation":
