Song of the Day: Twin Peaks - Walk to the One You Love

Clearly Twin Peaks haven’t yet reached their apex, but with their recently released third album, they're rising higher than ever. Down in Heaven showcases the Chicago band’s knack for warm, ‘60s-inspired psychedelic rock and fuzzy garage-pop in their most fully realized songs to date. While Twin Peaks have never been short on hooks, and the new tunes have them in spades, the new LP rambles, sometimes leisurely, over a wider terrain. In fact, album opener, and today’s featured song, “Walk to the One You Love,” sets the group on their walkabout at a brisk but not breakneck pace. Even its T.Rex-riffing opening riff feels lighter than you'd expect, and it's this difference, this adventurous journeying, that sets them apart from the many young retro rockers out looking for similar nuggets. It's a sound you might actually run to!

You can find Twin Peaks currently on tour, as they're playing larger venues opening for Cage the Elephant. They'll be in Seattle soon, on Sunday, June 19th, at Wamu Theatre, and hopefully to follow they'll have a tour of their own.
