Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Lives on Lives” by Goodbye Heart from their forthcoming self-release album, Keep Me Close, due November 25th.

Goodbye Heart - Lives on Lives (MP3)

Seattle by way of New York duo Goodbye Heart started their musical journey together as the folk-country group Cady Wire. And while Nila K Leigh and Sam Ford's current brand of hip-hop tinged dream-pop seems far removed from folk music, the harmonies that rise above their luscious production and the stories they tell are surely drawn from their acoustic origins. The group is dropping a new song from their upcoming release Keep Me Close every other Friday, and whether the songs are about falling in love or out of it, Goodbye Heart uses a bevy of synths and drum machines to create endless sonic chasms for their listeners to fall through right along with them. The first of their bi-weekly releases and song of the day "Lives on Lives" finds the chopped vocals of Leigh and an arpeggiated synth contrasting with the more atmospheric sliding of Ford's vocals creating a song that plays on both 80's nostalgia and hip-hop production. The groups sound, song writing and history all seem to contain a theme of contradictory dualism - a trend that "Lives on Lives" shows is working to an exceptional extent.

You can catch Goodbye Heart when they play a 21+ show at Sunset Tavern on Thursday, July 7th. In the meantime, keep an eye on their Facebook and website for their continued album reveal, and check out the group play 2014 track "Wish" live at KEXP:
