Sasquatch! Music Festival 2016, Day 3: Big Grams

"Come on Seattle, ya'll got to turn up – ya'll got legal marijuana!" Even when it's the third day of a musical festival at 12:30 in the morning, Big Boi makes a compelling argument. The trio of Big and Phantogram's Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel – aka Big Grams – were a nonstop party from the second they went onstage, not least because they celebrated Carter's birthday with a piñata. The trio were, let's say, particularly enthusiastic about the concept of "turning up with Sasquatch" as they ran through their slew of collaborative tracks. Big Grams have about forty or so minutes of music, and even including a few crowdpleasing mashups ("The Way You Move/Don't Move", 'Mouthful of Diamonds/Miss Jackson", a Big Boi remix of "Black Out Days"), they still took plenty of time to fill with their onstage banter, which was among the most unpredictable and candid of the weekend. (Of the three, Barthel, who briefly brought her mother onstage, was the most garrulous, frequently proclaiming her that her state of mind was... not her standard one.) Big Grams clearly started the party long before they got onstage, but the wind delays meant that Sasquatch did too, turning the supergroup's night-closing set into a rager on par with the ones that would follow in the campgrounds not long after.
