Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJ’s think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is "All Yours", the title track of the forthcoming album by Widowspeak, due September 4th on Captured Tracks.

Widowspeak - All Yours (MP3)

Over the last five years, Widowspeak have carved a niche for themselves most commonly chocked up to "shoegaze-folk". The shoegaze revival continues onwards, and as the likes of Beach House mix reverberating, fuzz-laden guitars with other-worldly dream pop (see: "Sparks"), Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas tend to give the impressionistic genre more static ground. Sure, there is plenty of haze and fuzzy sensuality laced throughout their sound, but a steady folk-rock drum and snare snap crisply in the air, and Widowspeak never feel like they come completely off the ground. This gives them a foothold that not many other bands in their dueling genres have.

On upcoming LP All Yours, the duo look to continue this trend with another excellent collection of tunes. Today, we give you the title track from the record, and it's a lovely number to play as the summer starts to turn to fall. Earl Thomas's guitars strum and vibrate with a T. Rex sense of forward, but the mood never breaks, as the cool drums keep the temperature mild in the breeze. Hamilton's doubled vocals add the perfect match to the lead guitar. A tale of love past and memories given away in the years in between bounces along over the easy groove. Energy builds in the most subtle of ways, as a quiet organ gives just enough of a fill to the beautifully sparse sound as the song fades. If the rest of the record follows with more of this, it's going to be a doozy.

Grab "All Yours" above, and check out the rest of the record (including the lovely, spiraling "Girls") out September 4th on Captured Tracks. Widowspeak are currently on tour in support of Lord Huron. Check their Facebook page for any possible future dates in the Northwest in the coming months. For now, here's the second song released from All Yours, called "Girls":
