There are two main takeaways from Trampled By Turtles' KEXP in-studio session last October: that these guys have serious technical chops and that they've got the songs to put them to use. The Duluth, Minnesota, quintet's latest album, Wild Animals, features some of their most emotionally resonant songwriting to date, and when they stopped by KEXP last October, they showcased a group of songs that displayed their considerable musical range. Moving from sparse ("Ghosts") to gauzy ("Repetition") to jaunty ("Nobody Knows") in just under 15 minutes, frontman Dave Simonett led his bandmates through an impressive mini set that showed off the band's newly emphasized vocal harmonies and impeccable instrumental chemistry.
