KEXP Presents: Pianos in the Parks 7/17-8/17

We love our city, and we love music, which is why KEXP is thrilled to be a sponsor of the Pianos in the Parks campaign in Seattle!

From July 17th through August 18th, twenty wayward pianos will be placed in parks across Seattle. These pianos were previously languishing in landfills and recycling centers, and will be given new life by Classic Pianos, who have generously offered to tune and transport them, and students and instructors from Gage Academy of Art, who will give each instrument a makeover. (Just wait 'til you see the KEXP-themed piano across the street in Denny Park!) For the next month, anyone is invited to "tickle the ivories" of any piano they come across. In fact, we encourage you to create a video of yourself playing the piano, and post it to the Pianos in the Parks Facebook page. The top five most heavily liked videos, as of August 17th, will be judged by a community panel, and the performer(s) in the winning video will be awarded a chance to perform at the final KEXP & Seattle Center Concerts at the Mural on Friday, August 22nd.

Good luck, and see you in the park! Pianos in the Park is made possible by Laird Norton Wealth Management in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, King County Parks, Seattle Symphony, KEXP, Gage Academy of Art, City of Music, and Classic Pianos.
