"I'm sorry, I have to interrupt. My mind was just blown," DJ Cheryl Waters revealed after Milagres opened their recent in-studio session at KEXP with "The Letterbomb." With its funky drums and shifts between baritone and falsetto, it's easy to see why Milagres' music made her feel this way. In fact, while these indie-rock experimenters make Brooklyn their happy hunting ground, they received a signing offer from Portland label Kill Rock Stars without having been seen in person. So yes, Milagres' hooky indie-rock sound has traveled far. After releasing their debut album, Glowing Mouth, they've placed on CMJ's music charts, and many of their songs have been featured on NPR and BBC. They've recently produced Violent Light, a DIY, new-wave epic, with Andrew Maury (Ra Ra Riot & RAC). So, get ready, because you're about to collide with a refreshing wall of sound.
