Nikki Lane - Seein' Double (MP3)

Emergent outlaw Nikki Lane has been flooding the Nashville music scene with her jangly, singer-songwriter blues, garnering critical acclaim for several years now. It may seem like she just stepped in the scene and has already been featured in Rolling Stone, on Country Music Television, on Rhapsody, as well as, of course, KEXP. (Her recent in-studio session left us all wanting more of her sweet crooning and bold, Southeastern fire.) The reality is that the high school dropout left her Southern home to first try her hand at fashion in New York and LA before realizing that her heart was in country, and thus, Nashville. Nikki Lane remains a successful fashionista (check out her vintage boutique, High Class Hillbilly), but she's since released four albums in the past years, starting with the early, self-released No Room For Cowboys, Walk Of Shame, Gone, Gone, Gone, and, now, the new Dan Auerbach-produced All Or Nothin', which should firmly mark her claim in Music City.

Today's featured song, "Seein' Double," a poignant track on All Or Nothin', expresses the darker sides of romance, namely confusion, regret, and mournfulness. Lane sings, "let's be sure, that we both know the score. / I have no doubt, / about every word you've said, / that I've heard it all before." Interspersed throughout "Seein' Double," there's wavering, Dylan-esque organ, and speedy guitar riffs which could easily corral any unfaithful lover into an apologetic state. So, listen to Lane's "Seein' Double," and feel the relationship redemption that only she can provide you with.

Nikki Lane was recently in town, touring with Old 97's. We'll have video from the session posted shortly, but you can keep tabs on her other tour dates by following her on Facebook . For now, we searched the Internet for a stellar example of Nikki Lane's stage presence. But, don't worry. In this video, you're not seein' double; it's Nikki Lane paired up with Huntsville, Alabama, native singer-songwriter Shelly Colvin performing a flawless rendition of Today's featured song.
