New York band Nude Beach lay their influences bare on their third and most recent release, 77. The spirit of 1977 is definitely alive in their music, and although band members Chuck Betz, Ryan Naideau, and Jim Shelton probably weren't even alive then, they ably capture the rockin' sound of Springsteen, Costello, and Petty.
In the spirit of punk, 77 crams 18 songs onto the release (a double-album in its vinyl incarnation), including today's Song of the Day. The songs were written over the past few years, and recorded by the band themselves in a Long Island basement studio and in their own Brooklyn bedrooms. In an interview with Spin Magazine, bassist Shelton says, "On 77, we brought in more instrumentation, complexity, and diversity in the songwriting and left it open-ended rather than sticking to one specific sound. It's a document of the full spectrum of influences and ideas we've had over the last two years and I think is a more accurate picture of what we want to sound like as a band."
