  • Last Friday, Colin Meloy busked on the streets of Brooklyn to announce the forthcoming seventh release from The Decemberists, titled What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, because of course it is. Meloy performed a few new tracks, as well as old faves, at the corner of Bedford Avenue & North 7th Street, against a mural of the album art. Check out a new track titled "Lake Song" below. What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World will hit stores on January 20th via Capitol Records. [Spin]

  • As if it's not exciting enough that Prince is going to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, today it was shared that he'll perform an eight-minute-long jam, with no commercial interruptions. Chris Rock hosts the episode, returning to the 30 Rock stage for the first time in 18 years, and to celebrate, he specifically requested the Purple One. Prince will be backed by his new band 3RDEYEGIRL. Keep track of all the musical TV highlights with KEXP's TV Eye column. [Stereogum]

  • Then again, sorry Chris Rock, but 18 years is nothing. On November 18th, punk legends Fugazi will release a collection of the band's first recordings made 26 years ago. Yeesh. Appropriately titled First Demo, these tracks originally appeared on a cassette that the band handed out for free at their early shows, because of course they did. Check out their original recording of the track "Merchandise" below: [Consequence of Sound]
