  • Indie icons Yo La Tengo celebrate their 30th anniversary as a band this winter, and to commemorate the occasion, they'll release an expanded edition of their beloved 1993 album Painful. Titled Extra Painful, the 2XLP set comes with a 7" and a coupon for downloadable bonus tracks, or a double CD with the coupon, or digital release. Extra Painful will also contain ephemera, photos, reproduction of original 'band-aid' sticker, the first 'YLT Gazette' in 14 years, and liner notes by Gerard Cosloy and the band. Out December 2nd on Matador Records. [Under the Radar]

  • As we reported back in September, hip-hop duo Run the Jewels have crowd-sourced an amazing remix album for their sophomore release (due out October 28th). Titled Meow the Jewels, the album will be re-recorded... using nothing but cat sounds. In the clip below, co-founder El-P visits a Brooklyn animal shelter to begin auditions. • The holiday season is coming up fast, and you know what that means... it's almost time for Record Store Day’s Black Friday event on November 28th! If you're making your list, and checking it twice, you might want to add this limited edition Mother Love Bone release to it: the 7-inch single will feature two never-before-released songs, including a cover of "Hold Your Head Up" by Rod Argent of The Zombies’ side project Argent.
