Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is "Notice Me" by Seattle duo Sun Tunnels from the 2013 compilation Ball of Wax Volume 34 (in 3/4 time) by Ball of Wax Audio Quarterly.

  • Sun Tunnels - Notice Me (MP3)

Sun Tunnels is musician Louis O'Callaghan's newest performance project. Longtime KEXP listeners might recognize the Seattle-based songwriter from his participation in the Brent Amaker and The Rodeo and his own previous project, The Graze, an endeavor that received press and radio play and toured the U.S. Currently, Sun Tunnels is a collaboration between O'Callaghan and The Fading Collection's Sarah McGuinn. "Notice Me" is Sun Tunnel's first recorded output and appears on Volume 34 of Ball of Wax, a local sonic magazine featuring new releases from independent artists around the country. The song hooks you with an acoustic, melancholic daze and never fails to let loose, as it bursts with intermingling vocals, electric riffs, and layered drums. Despite being packed with agony, "Notice Me" is a versatile summer jam well-suited for cruising down an open highway, walking around Seattle in the sun, or lying on the shore of Lake Washington.

As of late, O'Callaghan is pursuing a duo guitar/vocals and drums project called Lux Fontaine, and is working on a rock opera. Sun Tunnels is not touring at the moment; however, you can look for updates on their website and Facebook.
