Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song comes from Seattle's own rising electronic wunderkind Vox Mod. This special live in-studio cut of "Quenched Consciousness" comes from Live at KEXP Volume Nine, out September 2.

Vox Mod - Quenched Consciousness (Live at KEXP) (MP3)

In his full Audioasis set (from which this recording is pulled), Scott Porter lists off about a dozen bands he's been in and out of and a part of in Seattle over the past few years. The guy works his butt off, and you'd be hard pressed to find an electronic artist in the area that hasn't crossed paths with Porter. But this year, with new record SYN-ÆSTHETIC, Porter takes front and center giving us a Vox Mod record with every bit of breaking potential that it could possibly muster. Enlisting the help of Palaceer Lazaro (of Shabazz Palaces), Erik Blood, and other collaborators, SYN-ÆSTHETIC is ridiculously good, and it's fun to hear Porter getting to flex his muscles.

Nothing about Vox Mod is lost in translation between laptop and live stage. Porter and his projection team throw a murderous gig, and his beats only gain traction when put to the road. "Quenched Consciousness" is no exception. A highlight of SYN-ÆSTHETIC and the peak of his Audioasis set, the live version of this track pulls out all the stops. "Quenched Consciousness" is a strange melancholy, like a deeper level of understanding amidst a surreal and confusing aesthetic. The title is far from pretentious - it's about the only way to explain the feeling and the pulse of the track. In his Audioasis interview, Porter says over and over again "I just feel [the music]". There's no question of that when you hear this track. "Quenched Consciousness" is a worthy addition to Live at KEXP Volume Nine, and a more than worthy song of the day.

Grab "Quenched Consciousness" above and check out the live footage below, complete with seizure-inducing visuals. Vox Mod's new record SYN-ÆSTHETIC is out now. Check it out at his Bandcamp. You can catch Vox Mod live and for free tonight during the final night of Concerts at the Mural, at the Seattle Center's Mural Amphitheater. The show starts at 5:30PM and also features Lusine and Natasha Kmeto. Live at KEXP Volume Nine is out September 2. Pre-order it here.
