With a full house roaring their approval, Soundgarden came to the stage one member at a time on Friday night - each member clearly grateful for the crowd and ready to tear into a long set of powerful music. The first song opened under really clean light with roiling bass from Ben Shepherd, tight drums from Matt Cameron, Chris Cornell prowling the breadth of the stage & across the tops of stage monitors, seamless guitar lines from Kim Thayil. Snaking, unresolved melody that kept the sinewy tone flowing. Howling, charging, riding, pushing. They came to the stage ready to pounce, and which they did from the first note. Here are a few photos from their spectacular performance on the 2nd night of a pair of hometown shows, 16 years overdue, at the Paramount Theatre:
