  • The National were almost cut from the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, for reportedly "being too dark." Their contribution, which you can hear below, was originally titled "Dying Is Easy." As frontman Matt Berninger revealed to NME, "The song almost didn't make it because it was too dark for The Hunger Games soundtrack, which I thought was sort of funny because it's about killing kids, I don’t know how a song can be darker than that?" [NME]

  • Seattle's own Monogamy Party have launched a video for their track, "Crimes," off their debut full-length False Dancers. As directed by Emily Denton, the video is a fun, messy treat, indeed! [The Stranger's Line Out]

  • The fate of the historic Comet Tavern has been on Seattle's mind, and today it's been announced that Jason Lajuenesse and David Meinert have signed a lease to take the space over. The proud new owners expect to have the Capitol Hill establishment open by early 2014. "We plan to continue to have some live music, but not every night of the week. We will revive much of the Comet’s lost charms, from pool tables, to pinball games, to a karaoke night, while introducing a small food menu for the first time in the Comet’s history." said Lajeunesse.

  • In macabre news, the kitchen table once belonging to Ian Curtis of Joy Division is currently up for sale on eBay. Is this the table where Curtis first scribbled a draft to "Love Will Tear Us Apart?" Is it simply where he ate breakfast? Apparently, overseas bidders are welcome, but they "must arrange packing etc and cost themselves as [the seller] can't be arsed". [NME]

  • And in an update to yesterday's news about local band La Luz, Seattle Weekly have posted an interview with frontwoman Shana Cleveland where she talks about their terrible accident. KEXP continues to send them all the very best wishes for a speedy recovery! [NME]
