  • Congratulations to James Blake for winning the 2013 Mercury Prize award yesterday. As previously reported on the KEXP Blog, he had some stiff competition against Arctic Monkeys, Savages, David Bowie, Disclosure, Laura Marling, Foals, among others. Watch video from his Spring 2013 KEXP session here. [Pitchfork]
  • So, David Bowie may have lost that Mercury Prize to Blake, but he's not slowing down to cry about it: this morning, the Thin White Duke debuted a music video he filmed for the James Murphy remix of "Love Is Lost," a bonus track on the three-disc deluxe edition of his recent LP The Next Day, out November 4th. Apparently, Bowie "wrote, shot, and edited the video in his Manhattan office using puppets from his collection, all for the cost of a $12.99 flash drive." [Spin]

  • Speaking of James Murphy, the former LCD Soundsystem frontman has made his directorial debut for the short film Little Duck, the story of a young man "pulled from his life in Manhattan back to his home in rural Japan when his estranged brother runs into trouble." Note: he was mentored by Ron Howard, aka the narrator on TV's "Arrested Development," or for our older readers, Opie. Watch the 15-minute film at Pitchfork.com. [Pitchfork]

  • In honor of Halloween, Superchunk has a treat: their cover of The Misfits song "Children in Heat." It's being offered as a free download when you subscribe to the subscription series Or Thousands Of Prizes, a limited-edition box set available for pre-order now that will celebrate the label's 25th anniversary.
