Fresh off her tour with Radiolab, Thao Nguyen and The Get Down Stay Down are streaming their new album We The Common. Featuring a collaboration song with Joanna Newsom, "Kindness Be Conceived", the album is catchy but surprising - Thao can easily move from sweetness to roaring in a jump and a skip. Stream the album at NPR.

In other catchy pop news the more ear-bending band Deerhoof spend the day spreading the word about a show in Japan, in their new video for "We Do Parties." Not only is the song full of drastic guitar shredding as per usual, alongside the high pitched reckless vocals of singer Satomi Matsuzaki, but you can watch them having a blast at the arcades and karaoke joints of Japan. Wavves has taken a turn for the sadder with his upcoming album Afraid of Heights reflecting, in his words, "depression and anxiety, being death-obsessed and paranoid of impending doom.” Heavy words from the surf/grunge/brat rock king - and "Demon to Lean On" embodies all of those things, as well as shows a darker (and, like his girlfriend Bethany Cosentino's newest album, a more heavily produced) side to that kingdom. If the new video for Animal Collective's "Applesauce" doesn't make you somewhat uncomfortable then I don't know what will - the video features model Lindsey Wixson endlessly consuming a fruit while backlit by flashing lights. Her face becomes covered with squishy grossness, and in the end ... well, see for yourself below. [Pitchfork]

In celebration of The Ruby Suns release of their album Christopher - they've released a hilarious new video for "In Real Life." If you're a fan of American Idol parodies and/or Tim & Eric Awesome Show, or just really great sugar pop tunes, then this is your holy grail. Frontman Ryan McPhun acts as all the characters in this reimiagination of reality. [Stereogum]

David Byrne and St. Vincent performed "I Should Watch TV" on David Letterman last night - and, as David Byrne said ""The meaning and significance of doing that song on TV is making my head go funny." Check it out below. [Pitchfork]

Surfer Blood released "Weird Shapes" off their upcoming LP Pythons today. According to John Paul Pitts the song has to do with, “someone who is about to go through a manic episode." [Stereogum]
