British DJ/producer Simon Green, a.k.a. Bonobo, has been known to tear up the dance floor during his regularly sold-out shows, but when he dropped by KEXP for an in-studio with Cheryl Waters recently, the vibe was breezy and chill. Accompanied by a full band, Green featured songs from his atmospheric new album, The North Borders, while adeptly mixing samples and live instrumentation. In fact, Green himself sometimes played the bass with one hand while triggering and modulating samples with his other. British singer Szjerdene, one of a handful of guest vocalists on the album but the only one touring with the band, added her airy vocals while occasionally dancing on the music as though she were being lifted up with the combined ethereal sounds. Though The North Borders was conceived in part above the clouds while imagining the borders below, Bonobo's songs seem limitless and uncontainable, except while captured in this stirring live session. Watch it now.
