Mark from Seattle says... "From one Pixie loving Spokane transplant to another."
Graeme from Ballard says... "Unlike nearly every other radio station, you never know what you are going to hear day to day. Powered by listeners, not advertisers. Awesome. "
Bree from Federal Way says... "My dad has been listening to KEXP for years. When I would ride in the car with him, he would always have it on. I've always loved the music that was played. So thank you dad, Dru for turning me onto to good, independent music. It's one of the greatest gift you have given me. "
Ashley from West Seattle says... "The music is wonderful, the djs are wonderful, the community support is wonderful, and the support of local and unknown musicians is unmatched. I love KEXP!"
Chris & Marija from Seattle says... "we've got a baby due any day and want to help the next generation (ours and everyone's!) enjoy great, independent music. This is a community we want to belong to. To John, Cheryl, Kevin, Kid Hops, and everyone, thanks for all the great vibes and making two strangers feel, through music, part of this city. Peace."
Heather from Seattle says... "it helps me find new music and it helps me expose my son to a wide variety of music. I've been listening to KEXP since I came to WA in the early 90s, when it was KCMU! It has become even more valuable in the past few years... now that I have a real job and a child and not as much time to go to shows and keep up with new music. Thanks!!!"
Glenn from Honolulu says... "I've listened since you were KCMU, and have come to enjoy the variety you expose me to everyday. My wife is in the Coast Guard, so we move around quite a bit. With KEXP streaming online, I know I will continue to be able to find good music to listen to in each new city. Commercial radio continues to go downhill and even the good stations tend to play songs in heavy rotation to the point that I can't listen anymore.
Keep on keeping on and playing the variety that keeps us all sane."
Jennfer from Tacoma says... "I'm all about bluegrass, Americana, roots-blues-rockabilly-rock. There are precious few stations in the Seattle area (anywhere. really) that play this music in a way I can hear it on my car radio. KEXP is one of them. Please consider MORE of this music, especially during the morning drive times. Those of us in the roots music music realm are a little befuddled by what we hear on KEXP in the morning.
Thanks for asking!
Jennifer"
Marsha from Greenlake says... "John in the morning is inspirational and starts my day off like a cup of coffee (a buzz) and a donut (sa-weet, man!). Nowhere else can i get music that is outside the box and instead of having to listen to corporate crap in between the music, i can pay pennies to power it myself (with 1,000s of others, of course!). And the good deejaying goes on and on all day long with Cheryl and Kevin--it just doesn't get better than this station. I am proud to live in the city of origin and how can i let other cities shame me? i can't, i have to step up every pledge campaign to let you know I for one do not want this to go away--EVER!! Thank you for being there day after day with the best music, best deejays and the best feeling a day can start with!!"
Erin & Owen from Takoma Park (MD) says... "We stream KEXP all day at our offices, and the Friday show is always the highlight of our week. We got married in July and entered the reception to--what else--The Friday Song. We honeymooned in Seattle during the heatwave, and headed west in no small part because of KEXP. (Some of our favorite honeymoon shots are in front of the studio.)"
Meredith from New York says... "it makes me want to dance in the morning. And when it could reserve its fabulousness for Seattleites only, it chooses to share with so many more...You guys are amazing! Keep it up!!! "
Sheila from Bainbridge Island says... "John and Cheryl - I usually don't wait until Friday to renew my membership, so - sorry to make you all wait this long. I think non-members must wonder how you can be so passionate all week long and for each drive of the year. But once you look at what else is being played on radio, donating to this station is really a moral statement... You care about independence from corporate suffocation! Great music this week, guys! Thanks for working so hard to bring us music that matters! "
Hannah from Philly says... "I never realized how much I took KEXP for granted until I moved away from Seattle and found it impossible to listen to the radio anymore. Music just is in the soul of my being - I can't really make music, that's not where my talent lies - but I can't imagine my life without good music and I can listen to and appreciate music like nobody's business. I've been a grad student for literally the last five years, I'm one of the poorest people I know but my birthday is tomorrow and I can't imagine a better gift to myself than by supporting KEXP."
Amy from Charleston, SC says... "I lived in Seattle a few years back and a friend turned me on to KEXP. I've been in Charleston, SC for about 3 1/2 years now and I listen on my laptop all day long. I keep a pad of paper next to me at all times and I write down songs and artists and when I have a good collection I buy them and make mixed CDs to share with my friends here. Thank you for reminding me how much I love and appreciate music."
Riley from Bainbridge Island says... "I am 13 and I've been a member of KEXP for 3 years now. I set aside part of my allowance every month to give to the things that are important to me. My mom used to have to "match" my donation to get to $100, but now it comes completely from me! "
Chris from Chicago says... "There is not a more important radio station in the country. In terms of the type and quality of music that gets exposure on KEXP but the whole idea of public radio driven by the listeners who donate and make their voices heard through their contributions. Its democratic radio.
I've listened to John and Cheryl in the mornings for five years. I'm grateful to them for the number of bands/artists that they have exposed me to during that time.
Nothing in Chicago compares to KEXP.
PS... John's energy this morning is insane. Can he keep it up? "
Dan from Shelton Connecticut says... "Nothing like this in our area where we can hear this great music. Listen online at work and podcasts in the car. Keep it up!"
Camille from Bergen, Norway says... "A few years ago, I moved to Norway (the west coast, where we get 3 times more rain than Seattle - I'm not kidding). Being able to listen to KEXP online reminds me of happy days in WA and makes for happy days here. Thanks for all the great music!"
Caitlyn from Brooklyn says... "I just thank god I'm not forced to listen to commercial radio at work everyday. Thank you KEXP!!"
Paula and Louie from New Ross, Ireland says... "KEXP keeps us sane. We work together and listening to KEXP's brilliant, inspired mix of artists and tracks makes every day a good-er one!"
Paul from Bainbridge Island says... "John gets the day of to a positive start as I ride the ferry each day. He has introduced me to so many new bands that I have followed up and have seen live- keep it up. You make an old guy feel young!"
Marigold from Alexandria, VA says... "I live in a serious city (Washington, DC) with a serious dearth of good music radio. A couple of years ago my husband and I were turned on to KEXP's podcasts and were introduced to an incredible amount of new, great music that has inspired numerous mix cds and Saturday morning dance parties. Now I listen to John in the Morning every day at work and Cheryl in the afternoon, and each day I hear something that reminds me of the incredible power of music. It was my pleasure to contribute to your station."
Kent from Renton says... "KEXP broadcasts ideas that I do not hear on any other radio station.
Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
You will hear ideas that the fascist police state corporate managers do not want you to hear.
Thanks to Mike McCormick and Diane Horn."
steve from U district says... "This is my 13th year supporting KCMU/KEXP. I just turned 60 in Sept. but I love the music, the programming and the energy. It keeps this old fart going on the way to work and home every day.
Thanks"
Melody from Fremont says... "I love music. I grew up in the 1960's with all of that great music threading through my life. I lived in New York City in the 70's and 80's and lived in all the new music coming out of the punk world. I spent lots of nights at CBGBs and other east village clubs listening, dancing and living to those sounds. In the 90's it got harder to find new music - not the playlists of the commercial stations but the new and fresh and exciting sounds and musical ideas. So moving here and connecting with KEXP has kept my musical heart and soul in tact. If I don't "Power" you, I'll lose this precious gift - music in my life. Thanks for all you do!"
Drew from Vinton, VA says... "My brother, Scott, lives in Portland and made a KEXP fan out of me. Thanks for the music KEXP! Thanks for the heads-up, baby brother!"
Gibby Hayes from Austin, TX says... "I got some buttholio in my portfolio."
Regan, Ed, Eddie, and Nate from Magnolia says... "WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! We listen to KEXP EVERY day. I don't know what my family would do on Friday nights without Shake the Shack to get us ready for the weekend. I wake up to John in the mornings and i could not get through my day without Kevin in the afternoon. I wish I could give more to this station than I have given because KEXP has given more to me and my family than I could ever imagine. Simply the best!"
John from Chicago says... "Every band I am a fan of and listen to, since I first discovered KEXP 5 or 6 years ago, I first heard through KEXP. KEXP puts its listeners on the vanguard of new music. Several of these bands subsequently go on to stardom or comercial success. Every TV ad featuring a pop band, for example, I heard first through KEXP. It's uncanny.
Isn't Grey's Anatomy based in Seattle, like you? Sitting through that show is painful because 1. writing IS important and 2. they steal my I-pod from a year ago. It's like seeing an old girlfriend. But I heard it all on KEXP first, along with all the ad soundtracks.
I'd like you to produce a T-shirt that says, "I heard you first on KEXP" for me to wear to shows and festivals."
James from Bellevue says... "of their generous annual support of Bumbershoot. Bumbershoot has been my family's annual pilgrimage for a long time and KEXP has always been there supporting new, exciting acts. My teenage sons will have lifelong memories of all the great times we've had at Bumbershoot. "
Shaun from Mukilteo says... "I've been enjoying KEXP here at Rane Corporation for years and decided it was time to contribute. Thanks to KEXP, I've made countless mix CDs for my girlfriend! Thanks for the endless supply of new music not heard anywhere else!"
Brian from Ballard says... "I've been a listener for the last 5 years and I always wanted to donate but haven't had the means to do so. This year I finally had the cash and after winning tickets to the Ben Folds show with the Seattle Symphony I knew I had to give back to the radio station that has opened me up to so much great music. Keep up the great work!!"
Kate from Columbus, OH says... "It helps me survive the work day in craptastic cube-land. The morning show is especially awesome. Most stations blast music in the morning, perhaps in hopes of waking me up. All it does is make me irritable as I am not a morning person. Since I'm in Ohio and get to work around 9 am, it's 6 am Seattle time. The morning show music is usually soothing and eases me into my day. Thanks!!"
Greg from Wasilla AK says... "listed to KCMU back when I was in high school and was so excited to hear great alternative music online up here in Alaska. I have turned so many people on to the great bands that are only heard on KEXP that it has made circle of friends more aware of this great music.
Keep up the great work, I couldn't get through the day without it."
Joe from Los Angeles says... "It lets musicians like myself know that there are still people out there who care. I listen the music that matters podcasts when I go cycling as well. "
Kevin from Ballard says... "It's one of the last REAL radio stations where the DJs and shows are not formatted. Great Podcasts and the KEXP Zune Channel is awesome. Hey - someone should mix a Ski/Snowboarding Podcast this winter to keep us ripping through the snow! "
Ben from Capitol Hill says... "the live events are like family reunions without all the cheek pinching and weird uncles, wait a second, i'm the weird uncle... anyways, you get what i mean."
larisa from brooklyn says... "you guys can make sleepy mornings rock, break ups easier (dare i say fun, when kexp plays an entire break up song playlist), and for providing awesome music to sing along to in front of the computer during a long day at work."
Jen from Whistler, BC Canada says... "BECAUSE! It's the only radio station that not only plays but helps launch some of the best new artists of our time. I am an aussie girl living the dream in Whistler, BC and KEXP gets me through my day at the office.... every day. KEXP has helped me discover amazing new tunes which i now shred the mountain to throughout the winter! THANKYOU!!!!"
Kris from Renton says... "I haven't been listening to KEXP that long -- in fact, I'm a fairly recent convert -- but it's been the best musical discovery of my LIFE. Not a day goes by that I don't find myself scouring the playlist after I get to work to write down a song I heard on the Morning Show because they're just that good. So I'm supporting the best way I can. My mornings (and afternoons) would suck without you :)"
Drew from Seattle says... "...I think I'm going to take a different course...and say damn you. Damn you KEXP. Damn you John Richards....damn you for compelling me to participate in your endeavor. I moved to Seattle in March of 2002..found this strange station that had DJ's who shared stories (which was QUITE odd the first week) and played music that I had NEVER heard on the airwaves.
Damn you for sparking intrigue--that intrigue has become a financial burden I would not have adopted had I continued to listen to commercial music....I cannot begin to do justice to list of bands you have turned me onto. Damn you....I had made it through 4 years of high school with 3 cassette tapes: GnR, Queensryche: Operation Mind Crime, and Janes Addiction: Nothing's Shocking).
Damn you for making me institute a "ban on radio-channel surfing" ...it has caused many a hand to be slapped and chided. The dial STAYS on 90.3
Thank you. "
Randy from Wedgwood Seattle says... "It makes me feel connected to the music community. I have been listening since the KCMU days and the integration of KEXP with the community just continues to grow. I sometimes listen to other music sources, but then I start to feel disconnected from Seattle and the great music scene we have here and in the Northwest.
And it goes beyond the Northwest... I went to SXSW this year, and felt like I was still at home, thanks to KEXP's presence and all of the great bands they connected me with."
Sarah from Gainesville, FL says... "GREAT music. Nice people. No commercials. Nuff said. :)"
John from Toronto says... "Even though I live on the other side of the continent, I feel that I'm a part of this radio station. I can't say that about the radio stations in my own city. Thank you KEXP for being the absolute best place to find great music, enthusiastic hosts and a real sense of community!"
Zofia from Montreal says... ""I power KEXP because it is now part of who I am... I'm like the person among my family and friends who can pretty much pick up on any song in movies and commercials and know who it is. I love music, it's so important to me. It gets me through difficult times, it's a healing process really! Music gets me and I get it... I've been through a lot this past year... I'm not saying that music is the only reason I've gotten through this year, friends and family were critical. But those days when I came into to work and just had to shake everything off and get cracking, well putting on my headset and listening to KEXP was just like the biggest catalyst to started ;) So thanks! I feel like I have a special bond with this radio station. Coffee and KEXP are my two morning addictions I'd say ;)

Thomas from Vancouver says... "I am constantly traveling for work, and the soundtrack to these trips is KEXP. The podcasts have kept me going across every continent and I always arrive home with a multi-page list of new music to check out. Keep it up!"
Nan from Houston, TX says... "I want to hear music that I like and music that I didn't know I liked and music that surprises me. I've never found anything that does that better than KEXP. Radio in Houston, and I suspect most other places, just flat sucks. "
Scott from Chicago says... ""I love the countdown theme this pledge drive. I've been working long hours in a windowless conference room this week, so my coworker, who had never listened to KEXP, and I have been streaming all 12 hours each day. It's made the days go by so much faster and also provided some great discussions, debates and predictions. Thank you for being my source of new and great music.
""
Rachel from Bellevue says... "The Morning Show makes my day, every day. Thanks to John and everyone at KEXP!"
Nancy from Copenhagen says... "it's the least I can do to send a little money KEXP's way. We listen every day, get most of our new-music fixes from John Richards and Cheryl (their shows are on in the daytime/evening here in Denmark). I can't describe the pleasure we have gotten from your fantastic radio station over the years - and without the online archives and streaming we would be living in a very sad uninteresting musical place here. The connection I feel with KEXP goes beyond just listening to some music - I feel like you are our friends. Sometimes it's uncanny how close the shows are to the music I would listen to if I only knew how to mix all my old and new favorite bands together, adding some great fresh songs. My brother Chris (from Tullycraft) lives in Seattle and all the Seattle talk and music makes me feel closer to him. Keep it up! Your (American) fans in Copenhagen, Nancy, Harry, Lukas and Ava."
Eamon from Santa Cruz, CA says... "It seems that every year about this time I am reminded of how cool your station is (IT won't let me stream at work so I fall out of touch too quickly). Last year I was stuck on a business trip to China. I was going crazy in my hotel with work, getting a little frustrated with the food, and quickly becoming home sick. I would listen to the morning show with John and Cheryl as I worked into the night, and they were going nuts themselves trying to raise money for the station. I know their insanity helped me to stay sane, fun times. This year was a much more relaxing reminder, the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in Golden Gate Park, SF. The line up this year was better than ever, and for the first time I decided to go all three days. Wandering around the park I quickly realized that a lot of the bands on my "DO NOT MISS" list I learned about through KEXP in years past. Okkervil River rocked, put on a great show in the early afternoon, the Drive By Truckers played with Booker T, I laughed out loud when they played an Outkast song, it was awesome, and Neko Case was my finale, beautiful brilliant red hair and perfect voice to match. so thanks for the education and long live KEXP..."
Zack from Renton says... "I was introduced to KEXP almost 5 years ago, when I got out of high school. I never really understood how important KEXP was to me until I took a road trip for a month. I packed my guitar, some CD's and my clothes and headed out. Listening to KEXP until it out of range. I noticed right away that there wasn't a lot for good radio out there. I headed through oregon, california, arizona, new mexico, texas, and oklahoma. I was constantly flipping though the stations, there were literally no good stations that I could listen to for more than a couple songs. So I started going through the CD's and realized that 90% of what I listen to is because of KEXP. Cold War Kids, Noah and the Whale, MGMT, The Gossip, The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, Mountain Goats, the Blue Scholars, the list goes on and on. About half way back I started running out of CD's, so I started flipping through the stations again and was reminded of how terrible and repetitive commercial radio is. As soon as I hit tacoma, I switched it back onto KEXP and haven't changed my dial since. When I got back, I realized that I owe a lot to KEXP. More than I could give, but I will definitely keep donating and will always keep listening.Thank you KEXP for giving me the chance to help power the last great radio station."
Allison from Seattle says... "I love the music!! You can't find a radio station that plays such a wide variety of awesome music anywhere else. I listen to John in the Morning on the way to work, Kevin Cole on the way home, Positive Vibrations on Saturday morning , and Preaching the Blues and Streetsounds every Sunday. You guys are the best!!"
Kelly from Seattle says... "I don't know what I would do without KEXP. I did the $100 installation option and before that got the sweet ass option of having my work match my donation! It's one of the only things that has helped me through a very bad time (unemployed, foreclosure, identity stolen - not kidding, and probably tmi). EVEN given my situation I can't help myself every pledge drive! This time it was my new discovery - WO' Pop and Positive Vibrations. Only $20 bucks this time, but hopefully it will help."
Josh from Wallingford says... "I've listened every day for a few years now and I finally donated and I can honestly say that I will continue to donate every year because there is no other radio station out there as intelligent, genuine and passionate about music as KEXP. Keep it up, you guys kick so much ass!!!"
Sarah from Lynnwood says... "the station is a part of my family.
I was living in Washington, DC when I started listening to KEXP. I was introduced to the station by a friend who had been listening since the KCMU days. That friend became my husband and when we moved back to Seattle in 2005 one of the first things we did was join during the Fall pledge drive (before we had jobs or a house!). In August 2007 our family multiplied by two. Our twins have been listening to the station every day since the day they were born (because if we are home or in the car KEXP is on). Their connection with the music they hear makes us feel even more connected to the music and, in particular, to KEXP. We started emailing dj@kexp.org and making requests. Everyone is always friendly and so quick to respond! We volunteered for the first time during the Summer 2009 pledge drive answering phones and had so much fun we just did it again for the Fall drive. We now plan to volunteer for one shift at each drive. As our boys get older I am sure we will sign them up too!
Thank you KEXP!"
Juergen from Hamburg says... "When living in Trieste, Italy and driving my son Arved to school in the mornings, we loved to listen to one of John Richards 'Songs you can't play on the radio' podcasts. That always made our day!! "
Jay from Covington says... "I love the pledge drive antics of John and Sheryl. The music is great and their on-air bantor is very entertaining. I actually look forward to KEXP pledge drives and became a member because of them. "
AB from says... "I've been listening to kexp for a long time. I ride my bicycle to work and I like to listen to music along the way. I got sick of my playlists so I just bought a new mp3 player that also has a radio on it so. Now I can listen to kexp the whole time, since there are no commercials its like having a new playlist every day."
Gabe from NYC says... "the only place that loves music as much as I do. KEXP isn't chasing after advertising dollars or street cred - just sharing music that means something; whether its new or established artists. Now go and play some Ramones."
darla from capitol hill says... ""i love music... not a specific type, class, decade, but ALL music. KEXP is the ONLY station i have been able to find that plays every kind of music i could imagine and love, WITHOUT all the annoying commercials and yap-yap-yapping. i also love KEXP, because it allows this single-40-year old mama to keep in touch with what's new and exciting in the world of music, great local and regional acts, as well as hearing songs i missed out on throughout the years. finally, i love having a station for my daughter to grow up with (she's 8 tomorrow)... a station that will enrich her musically and won't tell her when the next sale is at macy's - phew!! KEXP gets me through the day... puts a smile on my face and i just love Love LOVE that the DJ's actually play my requests -- you are all wonderful!! PS. I remember listening to KCMU, back in the day... i'm happy you're still around!

Angelina from Denver says... "When I miss Seattle, I turn on KEXP and I'm home again."
Kristen from Capitol Hill says... "I listened to KEXP for years in Boston and then moved to Seattle and was psyched to be able to hear KEXP in my car. The great music scene in Seattle wouldn't exist without KEXP's love and support. Thank you for all you do and for keeping my finger on the pulse!"
Theresa from Rainier Valley Seattle! says... "I'm a renewing member...I listen to you constantly so it's worth it! You got me through writing my dissertation last year. Now I am underemployed as college instructor, making way less than I made before I got my doctorate, and I still think it is important for me to continue my kexp membership. Love you all and love what you do!"

kate from montclair, nj says... "as an artist, music fuels me just as much as food and water.
If I had to pick only one station to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be this one.
Thanks KEXP!"

Michael from Queen Anne says... "I love the Live sessions!!! You wouldn't hear them without KEXP and the member support. Fresh Espresso, Illinois, Telekinesis, Phenomenal Handclap Band, Tiny Vipers, Au Revoir Simone, Phosphorescent and so many more..."
Joel & Angie from Burien (B-TOWN!) says... "The wife and I just re-upped our yearly donation. We weren’t able to be ballers and go platinum, but hey, the $180 donation is a lot more than we were able to donate last year. I’m truly enjoyed today’s sets as it’s been a long, long time since I’ve been able to hear this much Brit Rock in one day, let alone one week. Quite simply, this type of dedication to playing quality music just can't be found anywhere else on the airwaves. It's amazing to have such a great station right in our own backyard. Thanks for keeping the wife and I on a better level of sanity. It’s truly appreciated.
"
Matt from Seattle says... "Hard to believe but KEXP's is the only membership drive that makes me NOT turn the dial. I'm always afraid I'll miss John and Cheryl at their punchiest. :) Oh yeah, and whoever came up with the idea to challenge folks to go the extra $20 to the $120 level was BRILLIANT!"
Laura from Belltown says... "I've been a regular listener of KEXP for the last 8 years and I've only pledged once, maybe twice. Like many of the givers who's stories you've told, this is a difficult time financially for me. I'm currently undergoing IVF treatments and my pocketbook is stretched. This morning it occurred to me that the greatest gift I could give future generations, including my own children, is the gift of KEXP. I appreciate everything you guys do. I'm a regular John in the Morning and Darek Mazzonne listener. I've pledged $180 with the 12 monthly installments. Worth every penny!"
Leela from Capitol Hill says... "I'd been holding out on giving because I'm pretty broke, but have to admit even all the pledge drive talking is way less annoying than commercials! I only wish my tax dollars could go to things like KEXP instead of wars and bailouts. I first got turned on to KEXP when I was living in Connecticut because my coworker used to listen online. Now I'm in Seattle it still gets me through the workday-- thanks!"
Sophia from New York says... "I went to see We Were Promised Jetpacks and The Twilight Sad last night at an amazing show and I never would have heard these two bands without The Morning Show! KEXP is the best radio station ever. I love you guys!"
Justin from USS Blue Ridge says... "Growing up in Bremerton it helped me become who I am today and love the things i do. Now aboard the USS Blue Ridge, I listen to it to keep me from going insane underway. I loved KEXP from across the sound and now I love KEXP from across the Pacific."
Alex from Philadelphia says... "I just visited Seattle for the first time, and my friends introduced me to KEXP. I haven't listened to anything on the radio, with the exception of NPR, for years now, and I was blown away by the consistent quality of the music and the sheer awesomeness of the hosts on your station. You have made me believe in radio again, and I feel like I've found a musical home. Thank you!"
Keva from West Seattle says... "I'm new to the area and the music from KEXP has given me a better feel for the place I now call home, it's been the soundtrack to my newest adventure and I love it!"
Dan from Westlake says... "The answer is self-evident, is it not? Thanks, from your neighbor on Dexter!"
Jason from San Francisco says... ""Music is what connects us all, and KEXP provides the very best in all things musical. I'm in San Francisco now, but music keeps me connected to my family 2000 miles away in Kansas City, talking new bands with my older sister who was the one responsible for introducing me to so many of my favorite artists growing up - my original KEXP! Music keeps me connected to my friends 2200 miles away back in Chicago where I lived for the past eight years before moving here. So long as we're all listening to the same songs and artists, which seems to happen naturally (but really happens because we all listen to KEXP), we continue along the same plane of existence in our lives. And music keeps me connected to all my loved ones that I've lost over the years, very specifically my dear friend Jason Schrowe who passed away in 2006. Jason introduced me to KEXP to begin with, and our friendship, which spanned the previous 10 years, was partially built on music. So many songs trigger so many good memories of my departed friend, and so many new songs that he never got to hear make me think of him still - whether we'd agree on the merits of the new band, or disagree on its rightful place among the best albums of the year. I hear the voices of John and Cheryl and Kevin, and I hope that he is somewhere listening in to KEXP as well. Thank you for keeping that spirit alive.
""
Blair from Boise (Boy-zee) says... "I was listening to KEXP the other day when I realized I can name every DJ, I know all the show times and I listen to it non-stop. it is playing for every occasion, Expansions helps me get research done, Michele Myers gets me into party mode and Johny Horn always helps me get through my Sunday hangovers. Streaming KEXP helps me survive in a less than vibrant music scene. Thanks everyone!"
Owen from West Seattle says... "I have a band and know that the only way new local bands can get any exposure is from airtime on KEXP. I also know that KEXP has done a great job of exposing me to music that I would otherwise be without. Many people today turn to pandora to find new artists, for me KEXP is more consistent and accessible.

David from New York says... "I don't have a car and so can't drive around listening to radio, but I do sit in front a computer much of the day doing work that doesn't touch the part of me that music touches. KEXP does, with music that interests, a website that informs, and djs with personality. Which brings something into my life that I can't easily find elsewhere, making my days far more interesting. so thanks. a lot.

Ali from Ballard says... ""the station has introduced me to so much new music since I moved to Seattle from the Midwest. I listen during my work commute and had a great time at the free shows at the mural this summer. I hear about upcoming shows on-air and through KEXP's Facebook updates. And the Song of the Day has prompted me to go to some great shows. Seattle is very lucky to have a commercial-free, member-supported radio station, and I'm proud to help support KEXP.

Lisa from Kirkland, WA says... "It's the only place where I can hear the music I love, and be introduced to new music to love, every day, every week, every month, and year after year. Everyone at KEXP has an extraordinary knowledge of and passion for music - it's amazing to be able to sit down and talk to one of the on-air hosts or developers or producers or assistants and hear how much each and every one of them know about music and how they live and breathe KEXP. I want my life to have that much passion in it. That's why I listen and support KEXP. "

Christina from East Village, NYC says... "I carpool to work at an animation studio Greenwich CT from the East Village in NYC everyday with 3 awesome guys who are just as obsessed with music as I am. We take turns DJing during the drive using our Ipods and have been doing this for years. UNTIL. We heard about KEXP (on 91.5 in NYC) and started listening every morning. We heart you guys. John in the Morning is my favorite thing since Nick Harcourt on Morning Becomes Eclectic. We're starting to feel like John is an honorary member of carpool. We can tell his mood by the music he plays . . . and even when mildly depressed, John always brightens the mornings of the East Village Carpool. Thank you for giving a shit about good music. It really matters. "

Jamison from Crown Hill says... "I had been stuck in a corporate office job for the last few years. It was horrible. But the worst part was that KEXP was BLOCKED from my computer! Can you believe that! So this year when I took the plunge and decided to open my own business the first thing I did on my first morning was turn on the radio to KEXP. I hadn't realized how much I missed it. KEXP is the audio equivalent of my morning coffee and I am glad to be able to support it. Thanks, KEXP!"

Winnie and Phillip from Central District says... ""its the soundtrack to my life! Being introduced to KEXP last January, thanks to my fantastic music loving beau, Phillip, feels like was meant to be. Its my music heaven. You could even say it was meant to be as much as Philli and I! Being an avid local music scene lover, I always felt that generic radio stations were too commercial, never playing the songs or bands I knew and loved. Always on the hunt for new local bands, being tuned to KEXP, has been a gold mine. Never before have I listened to music where I am constantly hearing brand new music that I adore. Really, I think its weekly that I hear and song and then HAVE to go buy their album!
Its just that good.
I have even played KEXP in my 8th grade classroom where I teach, knowing that my kids would enjoy it! Many have even requested we play it more often, sparking many music discussions and the love for the local scene. Many of my students are now in love with Common Market and Blue Scholars...really these were kids who would go on and on about the lamest Rap music!
I just want to say thank you KEXP for all that you do!
Thank you Philli for tuning my radio to 90.3!
KEXP is a radio I am proud to listen to and will continue to support! ""

Jason from Green Lake says... "the world needs to hear the new and coming artists KEXP plays every day. By bring these musicians to the airwaves, KEXP helps to change the world of music for the better. Rather than letting the suits dictate what the masses should hear, KEXP bends and breaks the boundaries of sound, releasing innovation, complexity and creativity back into rock and roll. Thank you, KEXP!"
Tess from Seattle says... " I love the music you introduce me to!! How else would I hear about all of the great musical talent we have here locally and in the Northwest? And your Facebook videos are wonderful!! (I can't help using lots of superlatives and exclamation points, because how else to express how fantastic I think KEXP is....). I also loved the summer concerts this year at the Mural and the secret sessions at Bumbershoot! What a treat to be just a few feet away from some amazing bands....Blitzen Trapper, Moondoggies, Throw Me the Statue, Fruit Bats and Elvis Perkins In Dearland, to name just a few of my favorites. Hope you do both again! Thank you KEXP!"
Wendy from North Hollywood, CA says... "I LOVE Kevin Cole's show in the afternoon and stream it while working at home. He plays a great mix of new and classics. At least once a week he'll put something on and I think "wow, haven't heard that in ages, love it." Also I have always been a fan of El Toro. Seattle Rocks!"

Diana from San Francisco says... "I moved to Seattle from New York City three years ago for graduate school. I had heard of KEXP before I moved, and was excited to finally have a radio station where I could hear the bands I loved. I remember waking up one morning to hear John Richards playing Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and even though I was still adjusting to Seattle, I instantly felt at home and knew I'd end up loving the city. I can always count on KEXP to play exactly what I want to hear, or to introduce me to new and interesting artists. Waking up to great music and feeling like you want to jump out of bed and start dancing - there are almost no radio stations that ever make me feel that way, yet KEXP managed to do so almost every morning. I moved to the Bay Area just over a year ago, and KEXP is still one of the things that I miss the most about Seattle. Thank you!!!!"
Ken from Portland, OR says... "We at Neighborhood Notes start every morning listening to KEXP. We love the diverse selection of music that you can't hear anywhere else. Anyway, I just heard John read my brother's name as a donor, so I had to contribute. We love KEXP here in Havana - one can only stomach so much salsa music. "
Changnary from NYC says... "I have listened to John In The Morning almost everyday since I was 14 years old. I am now 26 and streaming from my office in New York. KEXP has provided the soundtrack for every major moment of my life. I'm so glad I can finally give back. Thanks for the good times!"
Katy from Austin, TX says... "I Power KEXP because it's a little oasis of creativity in the midst of an otherwise bleak radioscape. Thanks for keeping my day interesting!"
Marjorie from NYC says... ""When I was in college music was my passion, when London Calling was released it opened a part of my life that I didn't know existed. I was a dj in my college radio station, KWUR, in the early 80s, usually on the midnight to 3AM shift Friday or Saturday nights. In the basement station I would play my favorite bands - the Clash, Joy Division, the Fall, Echo & the Bunnymen, the Gang of Four. As soon I was old enough I would go out and see as many bands as I could. Once I moved to NYC in the mid-80s, though, I gradually lost touch with the music scene. No good radio stations (in NYC!), and none of my friends were interested in same music. My husband listens to jazz and latin, doesn't like what I like at all, so I stopped listening to music completely. A couple of years ago I finally got an ipod and immediately filled it with all my old favs, which I found that I loved as much as ever. I started listening more and more, and started searching for newer stuff. Well, this summer I discovered KEXP, and have been listening non-stop. I feel like I've been on a crash course of music from the last 25 years! The last band I saw was Huster Du at Irving Plaza in the mid-80s, and now I'm dying to go to a club to see some of my new favs if I could only find someone to go with. Thank you, thank you, thank you (especially JITM, love his show!), for allowing me to rediscover the shear joy that music brings.
May KEXP live forever.""

Jason from Boston says... "Thanks for keeping my ears refreshed. So much great music coming out of that studio. I love getting a bit of local Pac West scene reaching me in Boston. "
Jessica from Brooklyn says... "I love the morning show with John. I get to work in Brooklyn and I start my day by powering up my computer and streaming KEXP so that I can listen to the morning show with my first coffee of the day. Invariably, I hear songs from my past and remember just how good all of that music still is. It really is a pleasure that distracts me from the fact that I'm at work. Thank you, thank you."
Beth from West Seattle says... "Larry Mizell Jr. is quite awesome and I wanted to support that!"
Mandi L. from Brooklyn says... "It started with John in the Morning. That first song of the show which begins at 9am here...most of the time the first cut is highly personal to me, part of the soundtrack of my life. Of course I get excited that my kind is out there understanding and appreciating certain songs/music the way I do. Catherine Wheel, Afghan Whigs and My Bloody Valentine are serious business to me. John rocks it and reminds me of greatness just when I need to. KEXP demonstrates nostalgia and new blood in a way that is brave, cool and pure. Thank you for so, so much. ML xo"
Tony from Bakersfield, CA says... "I'm a Seattle native currently living in Bakersfield, CA. I moved here for career reasons. Even though Bakersfield has a great tradition in music, including Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, there is no independent radio station here.
I donated because I am thankful for KEXP's continued existence, and the technology that allows me to listen online. I've also downloaded the Song of the Day and Music That Matters podcasts and have enjoyed both very much.
With no college/independent station in town, I've made CDs of the Music That Matter podcasts, and it's listen to them in the car.
I became a member today, because it was time for me to give back."
Nathaniel from Seward, Alaska says... "I'm isolated in a small town in Alaska and listening to KEXP online helps me forget about the isolation and all the great shows I'm missing, except when you remind me. KEXP shows and DJs offer such a variety of new and old music genres. I love being able to listen to alternative, country, international, rockabilly, and funk all on one station. It's always unpredictable and good to hear DJs having so much fun playing music. I don't think I've heard a bad song on KEXP. It's like the station was made for me. Also, I work for the Alaska SeaLife Center (www.alaskasealife.org) in Seward, AK which is a non-profit so I can relate to the non-profit power. But really I just wanted the Ron Mercer Jelly Fish T-Shirt.
Thanks KEXP
Nate"

Chris from Dubai says... "I first heard KEXP while living in Seattle for a year in 2005 and I really enjoyed the eclectic mix of music, I found it to be a great way to find new bands. Now as a foreign service officer stationed overseas I am away from the US for two years at a time, but I still can keep up on great new music through KEXP online. Everyday when I get to my office at the consulate in Dubai I go to KEXP.org and listen to Kevin Cole's streaming archive from the day before. It is a great way to start out my hectic day, and I have KEXP to thank for introducing me to tons of great new music every week.
So I never donated before, but I am so grateful for the KEXP streaming archive that I felt I definitely needed to support that which makes my morning complete!"
Adriana from St Louis, MO says... "In High School I started listening to KCMU. I would listen to Dan Savage late at night on his live call-in show...and learned a lot to say the least. I also spent Saturday mornings listening to Positive Vibrations. I was living in Kingston, WA at the time. Since then, I have streamed KEXP while living in Hawaii, and now St Louis MO. KEXP represents home, and my roots, in the North West. I will always take it wherever I end up. I also always said to myself one of the first things I would do when I got my first steady job as a Firefighter would be is donate to KEXP. Well, it's happened and here you are!"

Tyler from Budapest says... "It's a great way to feel connected to the US while I'm in Hungary. The high-quality internet stream is a godsend."
Bryan from Bellingham, WA says... "As a father to be with just two more months of quiet nights, it just feels right to donate with you two on the air. I enjoy hearing the trials and tribulation s of fatherhood. I support KEXP becuase I want my son to live in a community where independent music can thrive, and the message of artist is untarnished by the commersial giants. So this morning, as my wife and I paint the nursery walls, I am donating for my unborn son and the future generations to keep the music alive. "
Kelly from Duluth, MN formerly of Seattle says... "I lived in Seattle from 1985-1997, and when we moved away one of the things I missed the most was Leon Berman and Shake the Shack! Thanks to the miracle of the Internet I left my life of despair two years ago, and am once more getting down and dirty with Shake the Shack!! My burden has lifted! My life has meaning! Hallelujah! Long live rockabilly, boogie, rhythm and blues. And thank you Leon and everyone at Shake the Shack!!!!!!!!!"
