Seattle-based band Red Ribbon released their debut album, Dark Party, in the fall. The band originally started as frontwoman Emma Danner’s lo-fi bedroom recording project in 2012 but has evolved into a full-band affair that has included various band members over the years. For Dark Party, Danner recruited Veronica Dye (TERMINATor, ex-Rose Windows) on flute, Natasha El-Sergany (somesurprises) on guitar, Monika Khot (Zen Mother, Nordra) on synth and guitar, and Pat Schowe (Feed, ex-Rose Windows) on drums.

Our Song of the Day is the album opener, “Your Car,” which is lead by a driving beat, propulsive synths, and Danner’s angelic vocals. Danner told KEXP when we premiered the video for the song back in October that the single is about “about moving forward with urgency even if decisions are not always logical. The best thing we can do is attempt to make connections with one another.” In the video, multiple versions of a yellow-garbed Danner make appearances, while the band drapes themselves around the 1999 Honda Accord that Danner was attempting (and successfully achieved) to sell.

“Casey Sjorgen directed the video, and we made it in a day at my home,” Danner says of the video. “It is very intimate that way. The concept reflects an internal battle of good versus evil. In darkness, the most important thing is to maintain a sense of humor and hope.”

Watch the video below and catch Red Ribbon next at Southgate Roller Rink on Friday, February 22 with Nordra, Bad Luck, and Joe Waine.
