Legendary soul singer Candi Staton is releasing her 30th studio album, Unstoppable, on August 24. The album's lead single and our song of the day, “Confidence,” a funky r&b song written by and for herself “To give me courage - to give me the fortitude to keep moving forward.” The 78-year-old singer has been recording for over 60 years, with her last album, It's Time to Be Free, released in 2016. Unstoppable was recorded with longtime producer Mark Nevers of Lambchop, who worked with Staton 12 years ago on her His Hand album. The upbeat r&b album will feature a mix of original songs and covers, including Staton’s takes on Patti Smith’s “People Have the Power” and Nick Lowe’s “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding.” The veteran soul diva's biggest hit was 1976’s Young Hearts Run Free.
