Hailing from Portland, Oregon, indie darlings Ages & Ages bring their hand-clapping, hope-soaked sound to latest single “How It Feels,” a peppy little number built on a bed of ethereal choral harmonies, sunny synth stabs, Casiotone baubles, and ‘60s-inflected, spidery guitar runs.
It’s a chirpier turn for a band who kept a toe dipped into life’s darker side on their album Alright You Restless. With its ambling melody and soul-laid-bare lyrics (“But I wanted to tell you how it feels/Well, my problems are irrelevant/It doesn’t make it any less real”), “How It Feels” shows a new angle to Ages & Ages that suits them well. One to keep the Winter blues at bay.
