This week, we are featuring Christmas-themed songs selected by Brian Foss, host of Sonic Reducer, KEXP's punk show. Brian has been doing a punk rock Christmas special every year since 2004, and has been a Christmas Day on-air DJ since 2012. No standards are played, only original songs, most with a humorous bent. Hear him this holiday season from Noon to 6:00 PM on Monday, December 25th, and get even more seasonal songs on his 13th annual Punk Rock Christmas show on Sonic Reducer, Saturday, December 23rd.
Brian's pick for today is "Break Up Holiday" by Dude York, from the 2017 album Halftime for the Holidays on Hardly Art.
Says Brian...
The best Xmas songs are ones that flip the happy times everyone is supposed to feel with the reality of most folks -- Christmas time can be hard for a lot of people, and sometimes you have the celebrate the pain. Yay, Dude York!
And on today, Friday, December 22nd, Dude York is doing a mini-tour of local record stores, including the Light in the Attic Record Shop in the KEXP Gathering Space! Come hear the band "caroling" songs from the new album starting at 1:00 PM. If that doesn't work for your schedule, they'll be heading to the Sub Pop Store at Seatac Airport at 3:00 PM, Easy Street Records at 5:00 PM, and Sonic Boom Records at 7:00 PM. And check out a video for today's featured song below, directed by Sean Downey.
