Ned Sublette co-founded Qbadisc, the label that pioneered the marketing of post-revolutionary Cuban music in the US, introducing audiences to Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, NG La Banda, Issac Delgado, Carlos Varela, Maraca, and others. He was Senior Co-producer of the weekly public radio program Afropop Worldwide and leads musical-study tours of Cuba in association with the program. He has produced albums by artists from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Nigeria, and the former Zaire, and has released several albums as an artist.

The Centrality Of Cuban Music

Ned Sublette has researched Cuban music for many years. In this presentation, he explains that Cuban music is not merely important, but a fundamental music of the western hemisphere. Sublette discusses the profound influence — usually unrecognized or taken for granted — that Cuban music has had upon so many aspects of popular music in America.
