Marybeth Hamilton

Marybeth Hamilton teaches American history at Birkbeck College, University of London. She is writing a history of the blues.

In "In Search of the Blues" historian Mary Beth Hamilton traces the development of our culture's widespread valorization of the Mississippi Delta blues. Hamilton reminds us that the raw folk blues we love and perhaps take for granted today was once strange and unfamiliar to most Americans. The social history of the Delta Blues is complex, compelling and fascinating.
