As an affiliate of the University of Washington, KEXP works with the UW Treasury Office to accept gifts of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds or mutual funds). Making a gift of securities is simple:
If your securities are held "in street name" with your broker, send your broker a letter of authorization to transfer (not sell) shares of specific stock(s) to the University of Washington's main brokerage account.
Your instructions should specify your account number; the date by which you wish to complete the gift, the name and number of shares you would like to donate and the purpose of your gift (often, this would be “unrestricted gift to KEXP Radio”); and provide the following transfer information:

If you are transferring stock from a joint account, both account owners must sign the letter. You can contribute stock from several companies held within the same account.
Please, check with your broker soon after sending the letter to ensure that the transfer is complete, especially if you initiate this gift shortly before December 31.

We are delighted to accept gifts of mutual funds, but please be advised that the process of making a gift with mutual funds can be complicated and time-consuming due to protocols mandated in the USA Patriot Act of 2001. Very few mutual funds network with brokerage firms. In most cases, the University of Washington must open an account with a mutual fund company to handle each individual mutual fund gift.
Please expect the process of accepting and transferring a mutual fund gift to take at least one month. Please contact KEXP Donor Services,donorservices@kexp.org or 206-520-5843, to make a gift of mutual funds.
Because of their complexity, gifts of securities are best made by December 15.
