DJ Miss Ashley
Music has always been a big part of my life. It started in grade school when I picked up the flute, by the time I was in middle school I was taking private flute lessons and competing at a National level (so naturally, I love any tune with a good flute jam in it!). I attended Edmonds Community College where I was enrolled in the Digital Music program, taking classes that ranged from Jazz History to Music for Film. I graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Fall 2007.
In January of 2008 I began my journey at KEXP as Cheryl Waters’ DJ Assistant every Monday for the Midday show. At the end of 2008 I began an internship in the Production department at KEXP and benefited from more technical hands on experience while helping with the production of Audioasis. On Sunday, May 24, 2009 I had my debut on what I believe to be the best radio station in the world! (My first song was “Start the show” by Common.)
Along the way, I have also gained experience as an intern at Neumos in Seattle, helping out with production and marketing tasks and Jupiter Recording Studios in Wallingford. Out of college, music production and recording was (and still is) one of my many aspirations.
My current job at Sonic Boom Records has proven to be an ideal mix with a DJ gig! I constantly get to hear new (and old) music which provides inspiration for my on air show weekly! When it comes to music I am completely open minded and can enjoy any and all types of music, from hardcore to light-hearted, as long as it’s heartfelt! My musical taste has been influenced by classical training, the varied tastes of individual family members and friends and the music I hear on the radio. I still play my flute with some friends in a band along with keys, percussion, and vocals to add to the mix as well.
My goal as a DJ is to provide the listeners with an array of thought provoking sounds and inspiration, to make you move, and at a station supported by its members, to give the people what they want to hear!
