American Blues & Roots:The Roadhouse
is a roots program emphasizing the blues and other traditional styles of
American music. The show presents the wide and wonderful spectrum of our
musical legacy - the roots of today's popular music and culture. The
show explores regional differences in American recordings with a
decidedly Southern bent.
Host Greg Vandy creates a mix of American
music that transcends simple definitions and catergories of style,
combining various types of blues -- country blues, piano blues, folk
blues, zydeco, punk blues and whatever new interpretations come along --
with country and folk. On The Roadhouse you'll also hear old-time
mountain music, bluegrass, cajun, folk/country rock, gospel, soul, and
any revival that comes next. Each Wednesday night, Greg spins the new
with the old and the known with the unknown, demonstrating that we
always return to the source -- it's just one music in the end. Tune in
Wednesday from 6-9PM.
Listen to Greg's annual Independence Day Special, SOUL FREEDOM,
on the KEXP Stream Archive on the 4th of July. It's all SOUL, strictly HOT CUTS
from 1965-1976. No filler. All Killer. And it makes a perfect party
favor for your holiday weekend!
