FRI, FEB 23 - SUSIE TENNANT DAY ON KEXP

GET THEE TO THE KEXP ARCHIVE TO HEAR THIS AMAZING SHOW

Susie Tennant's daugther Ella Swenson, husband Chris, Dow Constantine, Marco Collins, and John Richard plus Dow holding the Susie proclamation

SUB POP CEO MEGAN JASPER ON SUSIE TENNANT

Susie Tennant was a giver. That was her deal, she helped people. When Doug Pray was working on the Hype! documentary, she told him who to speak to. She helped me put together a resume when it seemed like the most daunting task in the world. Last week, a colleague asked me if I had a moment to talk about a keynote speech that she was doing about mentors and role models. She asked to pick my brain because Igave the same speech last year. When I opened my notebook to go through last year's notes, my heart melted. There was Susie, front and center, on my very short list. With all of the things that I learned from her, be kind, don't talk shit, we are always stronger together. How fucking lucky were we to have had Susie in our lives. Let's all walk in her footsteps and do some good in the world. I'm certain that we will feel her smile.

L-R: Bruce Fairweather, Jeff Ament, Andy Wood, Stone Gossard, Tower Records Manager Dave Coker, Susie Tennant

STEPH FAIRWEATHER SHARES THIS NOTE ON SUSIE

"Little known fact: Susie helped promote Mother Love Bone early on at Seattle University District Tower Records! It's "little known" because a total of about 8 people were in the store at their record release promo day including staff and band girlfriends! Susie didn't care, she just bopped around chatting up the band and cracking Artie Fufkin Spinal Tap jokes. Susie's enthusiasm  and fun-ness made the best of a bust day, and well, soon more people got to know about this band!
We love you dearly Susie."

AN ADVENTURE IN NYC, 1989

Ella mentioned that Susie always sang Brown-eyed Girl to her. On a whirlwind 5 day trip to NYC in December 1989, Susie invited myself and our friend Nikki to share her hotel room at the Chelsea Hotel while she was there on business with Geffen. True to form, it was a whirlwind of fun with Susie seamlessly juggling work and play. We were watching a guy in a bar doing Van Morrison songs. He started to sing Moondance and she quickly and deftly corrected him to play Brown-Eyed Girl for her. She hated Moondance. He didn't quite know what had happened, but he had experienced the positive whirlwind that was Susie. What a gal!

For All Who Loved Michael Hukin

It’s hard to write this but my dear friend, brother in music, the man who started Loveless Records with me one drunken night at the Crocodile has died. With a heavy heart, the legend, Michael Hukin died from a brain aneurysm.

He was one of a kind. Wicked humor, impeccable taste in music, always in black but a heart of gold. He will always be one of my favorite music writers and someone who didn’t back down. He was one of those friends that understood you without explaining yourself, he cared deeply for me and my sister and reached out right after she died to say he had lost a sister. Well, today I lost a brother.

I love you man. I’m so happy we saw each other when I was in the UK. I loved your emails each week while you listened to the show. My heart goes out to your loved ones, especially the one who found you again, and you, her….he is irreplaceable.

Listen to the show below.
